Affirmative Action

Group of employees talking around a table.

Affirmative action supports the University’s affirmative action compliance to Executive Order 11246 and other federal and state employment compliance laws and policies. We:

  • Promote equity, diversity and inclusion for individuals throughout the employment process
  • Manage internal and external compliance reports
  • Educate all units about regulations and guidelines pertaining to equal opportunity employment.

Affirmative Action Plan

Virginia Tech is committed to the concept and practice of equal opportunity and affirmative action in all facets of employment. As a federal contractor, Virginia Tech is subject to regulatory requirements under the laws enforced by the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). The OFCCP administers Executive Order 11246; Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; and, the affirmative action provisions of Section 4212 of the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act. Together, these legal directives prohibit discrimination and require Federal contractors and subcontractors to take affirmative action to make certain there is equal opportunities for employment, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or status as a Vietnam era or military status.

As part of its affirmative action efforts, the Office for Equity and Accessibility oversees the search and selection process in the areas related to equal employment opportunity and affirmative action, including the analysis of data and assisting with recruitment plans to attract applicants from under-represented groups including individuals with disabilities and military status.

If you would like more information regarding the affirmative action plans, please contact the Office for Equity and Accessibility, Affirmative Action Unit at 540-231-2010.
